drill and tap the vacuum ports at the top of the manifild thus deleting the vacuum block. The only concern I have is will the heat of the manifold melt the vacuum hose?
no reason you couldnt add taps pretty much anywhere on the IM plenum ;
even the steel 'freeze plug' on the end..
if youu pick a thin spot,
there's a style of fitting that passes through, then has a jam nut on the backside,
of course yu'd need to be able to get at the backside
for a clean install I have contemplated tucking my vac block under the backside of the IM,
using the power brake port there, and thus hiding most of the vac lines,
may need to shield some lines from turbo heat...
Just make sure, if you place the fittings on a thinner piece of material, they are properly sealed. Thread tape doesnt like to work as well on thin material.
I think it is a great idea. Problem is it is hard to tap the thing with it rolling around on the work bench lol. But yeah a great idea. You also don't have vac / boost spikes up and down on the plenum like a vac block. More consistent source
A local guy has an 87 GLHS with vacuum sources very neatly mounted to his upper half bu the previous owner. He wants to make his car stock so perhaps you two could make some kind of trade. He is on T-D but I forget his user name right now. I do have his name and phone # so if you are interested I could give him a call and he could join in on the thread.
A good way to keep the upper plenum in place while you do anything with it is to just run some screws through its bolt-holes into a block of wood and then clamp that wood to your work bench. Just snug, you dont want to crack it. I did this when I ported the throat and it worked great!
Rob, It's a great vac source. No spikes and can handle plenty of volume.
