872 Views 15 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  KillerTSI
I bought a book on the shadow (my car is a 1993 Daytona ES) and i cant get the timing set right i set it like the book said to it idle's fine but when you rev it it has no power and tachs out at 3,000 rpms... Does the computer have to be reset if the battery is taken off or is bad (dead) for a long time?? When i turned the key on all the lites on the radio came on and wouldnt go off... If and one can help it would be extremely apprieated.

The engine if from a 90 mini but I used the 1993 intake and wiring harness if that help anyone to pin point the problem cuz I am at a loss.... and when I started it up it ran hot as the fires of hell...
Did you just do a engine swap? Are you using a 93 ECU with the 93 wiring harness? a 90 ECU uses a SBEC 1, while a 93 uses a SBEC II, the main difference is that the 90 sets the fuel injectors off in pairs, while the 93 sets them off indivually.

You did pull the coolant temperature sensor when setting the ignition timing? and put it back on when finished?

Last, for no power you might have a vacuum leak

Also was the engine and heads rebuilt, the 90 had valve seal problems which would leak oil into the cylinder.
Did you properly retime your cams? I bet you have them out of time!
And also what "roguetrip" said!
I think the seals are good cuz it dont smoke but I didnt adjust the cams yet and I am using the ECU, wiring harness, and intake/injectors from my old engine... I dunno bout the vacuum leak i havent checked that yet either.
Do I need a timing light to set the timing properly?

Not only that but the 90 engine uses low imped injectors and the 93 uses high imped injectors

read this.... I called the dealership and they said that it sounds like the computer needs to be reprogramed sence it has been sitting with a bad battery for so long... What do you guys think???
If it is the computer then does it absolutly have to be the dealer that can reset it or can anyone with a shop??
Computers back then are not programmable unless by a specialist, IE TU or some guys that are doing there own cals!
So im gonna have to tow it to the dealership then huh??

Why? they can't program the computer! they don't have a clue!

Put your 93 injectors in and run the 93 computer. Check your timing, problem solved!
I did but the car hasnt had a battery on it in a long time they told me that when that happens the computer loses its memory....
i put my injectors on it before i even put the engine in the car lol
