So from what your saying is you put battery in without starting it no lights etc and the battery was draining? Is that correct?
Sounds like a short or something wild going on.
you can check by starting to remove fuses from the fuse block till your batery stops draining the power when you find the fuse look up what that fuse powers up and go from there Using the process of emlimanation.
It sounds like the diode in your alternator is bad. That is the most likely cause when the battery is draining by it self. But the only difference is it will not happen immediately. It takes a day to drain. Would it start as soon as you put the battery on? It might be just the red cable in the plug on your alternator broken where you can't see it. I am pretty sure.
