The early K-cars had 4-lug wheels, but by 1985 they were switching to a 5 lug design at Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth.
If you like French cars like the Renault 5, almost called Le Frog, then you need only three lugs! Citroen D cars were introduced with only one large center lug, but by 1966 they were using 5 lugs like the American cars and the rest of the automotive world.
My big complaint is that VW still uses lug bolts instead of studs to fasten the wheels. This homage to history is so stupid.
It makes changing a wheel an unnecessary headache.
