Anybody else irritated that their SRT-4 is ....

.....unfortunately a total cop magnet????

I am 31 years old. My car is completely stock, no graphics, stock wheels, stock everything, and my days of crazy driving are well behind me.

Yet I've now gotten pulled over in my SRT-4 twice.

The first time was for a BS 36mph in a 25 zone, which I got a warning for. Today was for 57 in a 40mph zone. I was on a two lane country road where the speed limit fluctuates from 40-50mph the whole way. I was coming home from my parents house and had my dog in the back of the car. I was just cruising along with no other cars near me, not gunning the engine or anything, and this AHOLE cop passes me going the other way, turns around and then pulls me over. And of course he writes the ticket for 57 in a 40, which I believe is two points, so now I have to go to court for this one. What bothered me is I was polite to him the whole time, usually at least for that they knock it down to 49 in a 40. Not this jerk.

As a taxpayer, it really pisses me off that these cops seemingly have nothing better to do. There are a lot of other bigger problems our police resources could be put towards rather than harassing a guy like me who was just minding his own business, enjoying a beautiful day out. I guarantee you if I'd been driving my Impala he wouldn't have looked twice.

Scott---you might want to consider getting a TURBO Mini---they are invisable....

I have yet to get a cop to even LQQK my way. I love it.

Ive owned my SRT since the beginning of Jan, and I have yet to have an issue with the police. Hopefully it stays that way. As far as the van comment goes...nothing against them, but me personally, I wouldnt ever consider going that route. Not my thing, need the sporty look to go along with it. :thumb:

What we DON'T need is yet another thread about how you were blatantly breaking the law, but still piss and moan about how it's not fair.

Do the speed limit and you won't get any tickets...PLAIN AND SIMPLE. You got caught going faster then you were supposed to be...why debate this?

And BTW if you hadn't noticed the SRT-4 demographic then go look it up again. They were targeted at the crowd we mostly on this board despise quite honestly.

EDIT! Sorry BIG PSI I hit the quote button on the wrong reply.

i agree with chris, ive gotten pulled over 3 times, each one was for my temp tag being in the wrong place....other then that, cops dont look my way....so....
I don't think the SRT-4 had anything to do with the ticket, I think going 17 over the speed limit was the problem. I have a yellow SRT-4 and that is a huge red flag! I've been pulled over for speeding 80 in a 55 mph, got a ticket for that, thank goodness I had slowed down, I was doing about 100mph right before I got that ticket. I was pulled over for street racing a BMW M3 and they let us both go. Was pulled over for no front license plate, was let go with a warning, and my husband was pulled over for 60 in 50 with the SRT-4 and the cop told him "I already got my free toaster this month, so I'm not writing any tickets today" and he got off there. I do agree the SRT-4 attracks more attention and is easier to pick out in a crowd, but I think that once you are going 10-15 mph over the limit, it doesn't matter what you drive, you gonna get a ticket. luckily Texas lets you take defensive driving once a year to erase a ticket.

$$$$$ in thier pockets

ScottD As a taxpayer said:
It's all about how they can add to thier budget. Real crimes don't give them money for thier "piggy" bank (other than the drug money/property confiscation...). Many police depts have a speeding "quota". My son always wonders how I get away with what I do. It's all about the right time and the right place :D Plus my GLHS doesn't attract much attention (just an old faded black Charger ;) , I'm going to miss that when it gets painted)

But 17 over is a bit much......
Been pulled over twice in mine, but I deserved it. He could have just locked me up for 75 in a 50, but he knocked it down to 64 and I lost the point by taking community service. Well worth one Sat. given up to not get a point, IMO.
The other was for following to closely. Car in left lane going REALLY slow and I nailed it as soon as there was an opening. Was up around 80 when I saw the lights and backed off. She told me I took off so fast that she could'nt keep up. :D So I told her I had to go to the restroom really bad and she did'nt bother with the speeding. Still have to go to court for this one.
I deserved to get pulled over both times but it does'nt hurt to go to court.
Also I've seen at court where one officer had at least 30 traffic cases in one day and did'nt show up for court.
Swap the wing for a regular SXT wing. That completely eliminated local high school kids reving their Hondas at me.
I'm not saying I didn't break the law and that my actions didn't merit a ticket. Yes, I was speeding, I admitted that. I didn't realize I was back into a 40mph zone, but I was definitely doing over 40mph.

What I'm saying is that had I been driving my Impala, would I have gotten pulled over? I don't think so. I drive that road about once a month or so, most of the time in the Impala, and I usually do about 50-55 mph all the way across, and not once have I had an issue. I've owned the Impala for four years and I've gotten pulled over once for speeding and got a warning. I've driven my R/T and Daytonas on that road too in the same manner and never have had a problem. I've had the SRT-4 for 8 months. That is the point I was trying to make, that I felt singled out and lumped in with a demographic that even I don't like (which is why I mentioned the car is bone stock and that I'm 31 years old).

I guess I offended some on here with my pissing and moaning. I am not perfect and don't drive exactly the speed limit all the time, I didn't realize some others on this board are much better law abiding citizens than myself. I am sorry to post this and waste bandwidth and the time of everyone who has read this thread.

It's not that I wanted to jump down your throat or anything and apologize myself if I came across harshly. But I've seen threads like this get real stupid real fast.

I'm 32 and got pulled over once in my white '87 Shelby Z simply because I had a lot of gauges on the pillar and it was loud.

It's ALL about what people (including cops) perceive. The SRT-4 unfortunately fits the part of a *ricer*. This is what you have to deal with and accept when owning a car of this nature.

No offense intended bro...just trying to prevent a thread from getting real silly.
Thats area from what u described is a speed trap avoid it even if the other route takes longer itll be worth it. the 2nd day of onership i got a ticket in mine. the cop lied i knew he knew it but u better be pretty amizing in court to beat a ticket. ive got 3 tickets in mine i can say 1 i deserved. Scott i know were u are comming from with the attitude these cops use my last 1 was a real tool. funny they expect u to respect them after that. now i must say ive ran into some very decent lawmen but for the most part id say its a ratio of 10 to 1.
I admit, my SRT-4 attracts a little bit more attention than i would like. And i think i chose the most sedate color available at the time (silver). But the big wing does still attract alot of attention. I got pulled over on I95 for going 75 in a 55. Was I speeding? Certainly. Did I deserve a ticket? No argument. I was in fact keeping up with the flow of traffic. And on I95 near a metropolitan area, thats what you do, or risk getting slammed into from behind. The SRT-4's exterior was meant to attract attention out of a crowd. So not only does it attract the attention of the 17 year old kids, it attracts the attention of Mr. State Trooper.

well scott, i was thinking, on the first time i got pulled over, i had the cop come up to my car and say "Are you late to school or work!" i told him no and gave him my stuff, well he told me about my tag and i asked him if i was doing anything wrong, he said no....i know what u mean...but i do think that going 15 over the limit is kinda asking for a ticket...good luck!
I tend to watch my speed more in the SRT than I do in any other cars. I think it's because my car is blue and sticks out!
Chris - thanks for the apology. Sorry if I came across harshly in my response, but after getting the ticket I was (and still am) pretty steamed about it. It is one of those things ... did I deserve it? Yes, I was breaking the law. But ... I've seen much much worse from other drivers on a regular basis, I just kind of felt singled out and needed to vent.

Mike - the scenario you describe is exactly the situation I felt I was in. I was on the road by myself, but as I said I travel that road fairly frequently and often have people riding my butt on that road when I'm doing 50-55mph. I guess I need to look into an SXT wing.

Tickets

I am 43 and tend to get tickets in spurts, dont ask me why.

Usually I dont get nailed on the highway, but stupid ones on side streets such as you describe. I got wise and bought a good radar detector. I find up here the local police are creatures of habit and leave the radar turned on all the time, so the detector always blows long before I am in their sites. Havent gotten a ticket in 5 years. Note I dont drive like a wild ass either, but sometimes you dont pay attention and they nail you for 40 in a 30 or somethign like that.

I also work for the electrical Power Co up here CMP, and keep my hard hat in the car. I got pulled over once(Cop claimed I went thru the red light which was BS) in my 86 Daytona, he looked the car over, peared in saw my yellow hard hat and smiled and let me off. Guess he likes having his power restored during storms.

PS, I have a Black PTGT and I dont think the cops even notice it.

Also what colors do people think attract the cops the most? I would guess red, although I suppose the solar yellow would tend get noticed too.

I got a ticket for doing the exact same thing 2 days ago coming home from work in my srt4, (62 in a 45) :bang head . I got a 185$ ticket and 3 points :bash: . Yes I pissed and moaned about it but I also realize I was breaking the law so I gues I deserved it. But I will definitely say that I that the car is a cop magnet. I driven that road a thousand times in my spirit and gone well over 70 and passed cops and never once got pulled over. I one time had a cop follow me on the highway in the middle lane doing the exact speed limit for about 15 miles. He just kept on my but like he was trying to get me to go faster so he could pull me over. Oh and by the way, the quota thing is tru in most states. My father was a LT in New York for 31 years. He always said to be careful durring the first half of the month b/c of ticket quotas.

Sorry to hear of ur bum luck but I know how u feel.

Scott,

I have a 90 turbo Caravan, black, has 2.5L forged pistons, garrett 60 trim turbo with .63 turbine housing, g-head. A-413 with T-Trac. I'll trade you the van plus a parts van (94 Grand Voyager 3.3), and $38 for the SRT-4. I'll even throw in a maroon Sundance. I think that sounds fair.

Do we have a deal?
