ARRRGGHHH, TRANS. MESSED UP! (I think)...

Well I think after 98,000 miles and some good HP, the stock tranny is on its way out. A few weeks ago I had it in Drive (its a 413 of course) and came to a stop, didnt shift out of second, okay so I manually shift it...then it never did it again.

So it stopped, and came back yesterday, now this morning it didnt want to upshift!!!:bang head So now I have to manually shift it until I get $500 to rebuild the damn thing. Its no problem to shift it manually, sometimes I like to pretend its a 5spd (hehe), but now I think the transmission is on its way out...what do you guys think, is it time to rebuild, or can I wait a little longer until it starts slipping?

Oh and I checked the fluid, its perfect.

Buy a rebuild kit... do it yourself!!!
That problem was happening to me for the last month! Get it rebuilt now cause soon you won't be able to manually shift it anymore and you'll be stuck in first gear!!
Peachy...

http://www.forwardmotioninc.com/html/catalog/transmission.htm Is this it? At the bottom middle of the page.

How long do you guys think I have until my tranny is shot. I dont get paid until a week from this Tuesday.
Sounds like governor is acting up! You can fix it in the car but its alot of work!
Is it something that can be fixed within a day's work?
Easily, a competent trans guy can do it in the car, I did mine in my van numerous times, playing with the shift points, :bang head
Are you sure that the kick down cable didn't come loose?

Havent a clue...how do I find out? BTW, is it okay to race it like this? Ive been driving it a while this weekend and the only problems its giving me now is when its supposed to downshift two 2nd while rolling (i.e. slowing down b/c some a-hole turns left:D).
Is it okay to race it like this, guys?
look for the cables that come from the t/b 1 goes in the car / 1 goes to the CC then the last one goes to the trans / bolt up to the top and cable end hooks by the shift lever/ if you move the gas ped. the cable will move there too. or come by work and i will look. ALS
What would that tell me, Al?
i thought i seen something on www.allpar.com about going like 25mph and throwing it in reverse, sounds scary, maybe one of these other guys know a little more about that (about the governor sticking), i wouldnt try it
Ive seen some retards out there with their trans...actually just last Friday night I saw two morons do it. One in a 78' Volare with a 727 trans, he revved it up in Neutral, then dumped it in D...nice....the last but not least dumbest one has a 3.1L Buick, he put it in Reverse, slammed the gas, slammed it into Drive <----smoke 'em real good too! :thumb:
Yeah, that shakes the governor loose. You can try it but how can you race a car that starts off in 2nd gear?????????
if the car shifts instintly into 3rd like in third at 15 mph or it wont down shift if you floor it your valve body is going out or the kickdown cable is loose.

i too drive my a670 speed like a stick becouse it is faster when i redline it then when it shifts at 5500rpms
on my last tranny when i installed the 52mm throttle body i didnt think to hook up the kickdown cable and decided to drive it like a stick.
3 months later i blew a bearing straight through the housing. it was unreabuildable had to buy a junkyard one and have it rebuilt.
it happend becuse the clutches were getting overworked.
that will let you know if the kick down or detent cable is /1off or2 sticking or3 broken.it,s not in rev, it,s i to park till you here the park pin clicking, it vibbrate the trans and knocks the drit that might be stuck in the gov. but make sure you are going over 25 mph as slower it might grab in park.ALS
Dave....think of it as a manual valve body :D

Not if your TV cable isn't hooked up or adjusted right. The TV cable(aka "kickdown cable") directly affects line pressure. Not enough line pressure and your clutches are going to slip.
Al Im gonna stop down at your work today, and maybe you can take a peak at it? Ill be there around 3:30.

And to clear stuff up, it is shifting fine now for some reason, it will downshift all the way int 1st. I think it just doesnt want to downshift after I beat on it, this would cause my trans. fluid to get hot, but would that cause too much additional pressure in the valve body to make it not down shift?
