All the grease will be slung out of the CV boot as the car is in motion and create a greasy mess on the engine and underside of the vehicle. The CV joint will eventually fail. If most of the grease has already escaped I would plan on replacing the axle.
axle question
i notice a small hole in the cv boot on my axle, should i swap in a new axle ?? will the hole hurt anything ??

If the hole is small enough, just use some rtv to plug it. I have done this in the past. It is just a temporary fix though.
