Very long story short:
I have an 87 Shelby Daytona that has been in storage for 6 years.
Shot a rod the day I bought it after saving to buy my first car.
At this point I just want it back on the road.

If I pick up a 2.2/2.5 NA motor, can I bolt on the MPFI
manifold and use the same PCM/Logic Module?

The only reason I have doubts is fuel mapping with no boost.
I don't know jack about the Logic/PTC modules.
I don't really want to blow a thousand on a laptop and megasquirt,
and I don't really want to rewire everything to run inferior TBI.
Entire bottom end of my car is shot, so a rebuild is out of the question.

Does that make sense?

TL:DR;
Car is a Turbo II
Want to swap in a regular 2.2/5 and keep MPFI,
lose the turbo for reliability's sake.

How feasible?

I've wondered about this also ,but I heard of people disabling the turbo and not causing any driveability problems. Best part of your swap is the higher compression engine should work out. This would be similar to the Mexican Flex fuel engines.if you use a 2.5 you should probably use +20 injectors or the flex fuel (+18) injectors. Keep us informed.

2.2 Turbo Long block is looking to run about $1800 in my area.
Good 2.2/5 I can get for about 300. And the car has the Getrag 5, T-Tops,
and a new clutch.

I already have a newer, good DD.
I'm just considering doing this because it would be a neat, cheap alternative to buying
another RX7, the drift tax on RWD cars is getting insane in Minnesota.
If I'm going to drop another couple thousand on performance, it isn't going to be FWD.

**I don't mean any disrespect. But I've considered finding a turbo II block for years.
I don't want to spend that much on FWD at this point in life. Eventually I may cut
everything out and just weld up a four-link in the rear and run an SR20 or longitudinal 3800.

YES -if you get a 2.2 short or long block

if you get a 2.5,
as 4Daytonas suggested a swap to +18/20s should put your fueling pretty close..
or a recalibration of yur ECM could be done instead.

if it was me, I'd find a 2.2 N/A short block, then swap the turbo also..

the NA block would be fine
AS LONG AS you keep the boost < ~7-8 ;)

I'd contact him.

Turbo Dodge Stuff
Thank you for the heads up man! If he'll part with the 91 block and the
turbo/injectors, I'll honestly keep it a turbo car. And he's not too many hours from where I am. I should have thought to check craigslist, but I figured I'd wait until I'm settled at my new place.

Detobias: Thank you for the confirmation also!
Part of the reason I was considering going NA/MPFI was the fact that
the owner before the guy I bought it from had messed up some of the vacuum
lines and the car was underboosting. My RX7, T/A, and Miata were all NA,
so I only want to delve into a turbo swap if I know the turbo isn't shot.
That craigslist guy has a good one, apparently. A spare head to port-match,
do a valve job on, etc would be a great way to spend some spare time also.

I appreciate the help guys. I know next to nothing about the computerized
systems in these cars.

A turbo car with computer controlled boost is pretty reliable. It is when there is a problem over boosting and detonating with MBCs and bad vac lines they become a pain.

4 bangers are horrid to drift with, an on off switch of power. Even these guys running AE86s go out and bolt in a V8. Find an A body Mopar. Add a 360, rear sway bar and posi and go have a good time.

Nah. My 12a FB and NA6 did fine if you kept the speed up. Which was trying.
I'll give you guys an update if I grab any of that stuff from the craigslist post.

Or I can find a longditudinal 2.2...... 0.o

I'd find a 2.5 turbo head and bottom end, use your awesome 87 Turbo 2 intake exhaust and turbo setup and have FWDP make you a calibration for your 2.5 and run it. You'll be really happy with it. I know cause I went down the same road with my 87 Turbo 2. The 2.5 with the 87 T2 top end and a proper cal makes these cars awesome. Do everything right and spend a bit more and they'll be as reliable as any other car out there. I drove mine 1349 miles 1 way and back with nothing more than a spare tire.

Checked at rockauto, I can rekey the entire car and replace the hatch struts for under 50, lost title shouldn't be too expensive.

Now I just need to find a 2.2 around here.
Even solicited a friend's help for the swap.

Anyone believe in ordering motors online and having them freighted? I'm looking pretty hard for a 2.2 and they're somehow scarce these days.
