I am re-wiring up a Autometer boost gauge & A\F gauge. When I went to R.Shack the guy gave me spools of 20G & 18G "Hook Up" wiring. When I pulled out the wire though it is solid not like the strands of wire I have already coming from the gauges.

Can I use this wiring? It seems it would be much harder to splice into the wires I already have. What kind of wire can I get & what gauge for the boost gauge lighting?

that will work fine ; you can use the 'crimp' style connectors with either solid or stranded wire - just make sure to get the right size connector to match your wire size

I prefer to solder my connections for durability and a lower resistance connection

the solid wire will solder to the stranded just fine
