BOV question

OK, after reading the whole seven pages of the 'bov on t1" thread(and finally stopped chuckling) it made me start to wonder about my turbo set up on my 88 D S Z. Is there a factory BOV on the t2's? i dont hear any pssst sounds-LOL. Seems ive heard buzz around that it would be a good idea to add one to help the turbo last longer. If its a good idea to have one, what is a good brand to go for,and where exactly would it go? Thanks for any input.AND just in case your wondering if im asking this because i want the PSSSST sound,IM NOT! Im strictly interested in making my turbo work more efficiently and last longer.
Thanks, :thumb:

TII cars did not have a BOV installed. I bought a TurboXS Type H RFL BOV from Welcome to FWD Performance, Inc. just do a search for TurboXS. You will also need a 'T' to install it. I used their TurboXS BOV install kit. You will need two T-Clamps to attach the 'T' to the intercooler hose. You install the BOV just before the throttle body. Instead of ordering it on-line I suggest that you call them at 281-288-4411 and ask for Cindy. If possible run the BOV vacuum line to the throttle body.

here is a pic on how Tony installed his.

Hope this helps

SWEET! Am i correct in my assumption that this is a good upgrade for not only performance, but turbo longevity as well? Also, how much for the whole kit and kaboodle? Thanks, :thumb:

Click on the link to the website and go into the store and look up the parts to get a price. Yes the BOV will help the turbo longevity
Post a pic here when you get it installed!

Richard, great post. Needless to say I book marked it for future reference.

Yeah adding a BOV would be a very big plus for the tII. I have no idea why chrysler thought it'd be a good idea not to put one on there. Most of the 88+ t1s have one in the airbox. I just took mine out of the airbox and into the open yesterday because I'm going to be adding a better one that can hold more pressure in the near future.

It is ONLY for turbo longevity. Without it, when you snap the throttle closed the boost pressure stacks in the hoses/intercooler and forces the turbo to spin down, causing a chattering in most cases and excessive wear to the bushings.

Depending on how much boost you are running, the junkyard could be your friend. Head over to Donovan's Dodge Garage, go into the Turbo Database and look at articles 20-22. I'm running the Saab-original Bosch unit on my '90 and it holds 12 pounds no problem. Silicone adapter from siliconeintakes.com for $20 and the BOV from the junkyard for $7. Not too bad. If you're planning on running more than stock boost, you'll want the 1G DSM or something better like the TurboXS unit.

yeah hes right. Its like youre running at full speed and then you instantly stop. It wears you out. Thats whats happening to your turbo whenever you let of the gas or push in the clutch when you're running boost.
Thanks for all the input guys,i havent been on much during the holidays, and have been busy with non car stuff,im going to get one this month and install as per recommended.Ive been talking to some other aquaintances around my area who are into td's,and they all say the same thing, dodge must have been looking to trim a few bucks off the build? Not having bov on t11 is just silly and rather short sighted. Perhaps they were hoping to increase replacement turbo sales?-LOL
At any rate,i'll let y'all know how it turns out.
