Fuel pump or fuel filter would be the first thing I would look at. The pump is in the tank. An easy way to check it is to crank the engine over for a couple of seconds, then depress the schrader valve on the fuel rail. If no gas squirts out, then the problem is either the pump or filter. I think on the 87 there is no automatic shutdown relay, so the pump should have power whenever the ignition is on. The filter is located in front of the rear passenger side tire, bolted to the frame.
