I am currently in the process of doing the conversion to a 2.2 Omni, only thing Im stuck on is how to find the cam sprocket size needed for my setup, I know the cam sprocket is 2 times larger than the Crank sprocket, but the (2.0 SOHC is Crank:21 tooth Cam:42 tooth) (Omni 2.2 is Crank:20 tooth Cam:40 tooth) but I am wondering how the DOHC did it.

I just wrapped up the carbed 2.4 conversion about a year ago on my 84 SC. I was originally going to do a hybrid, but for me doing a full 2.4 swap was the better choice.

Not sure what the original 2.4's made, but this certainly has 200whp. Of course, the engine isn't stock. 11:1 cr and a Menegon ported head help a lot. Still using stock cams, but that'll change pretty soon. I've wanted to tune a bit before I started messing with cams.

ah, any performance increase with the Carbs or is it about the same HP as the original 2.4L?

At least it is somewhat alive. I had purchased a 2.4L DOHC head and a load of other pieces from a guy who tried to make it work on a 2.2L block. I have a 2.5L turbo short block (head is there, but no cam or followers) I want to try to put a Hybrid 2.5L together. I will post some pictures of what I have, particularly anything with a PN on it so maybe someone knows what I have as far as manifolds etc. I have thought about going DIS on it, and actually have an SBECII that would probably do it with a proper chip as it is a fully populated one from a 3.3L 1993 van.

The fellow I bought it from has the FWD adjustable cam sprockets on it and it still has the CMP on the head. Yes, I could probably drop a 2.4L in, but, a 1986 K-car with the DOHC setup on a 2.5L bottom end will be stranger anyway.

yeah when I say SOHC 16 valve 2.2 people look at me like "HUH?????" and I explain slowly and carefully, which is why Im doing the 2.2 with SOHC 2.0L 16Valve head, its just way out there and Im hoping for at least 132HP like the original 2.0 SOHC neon it came out of, But more HP would be a plus, as the 2.2 N/A never reached full potential because of the 8 Valve head and TBI,"crossing fingers"...

May have found my "Cam Gear"!!!! it is off of a 1.3L/1.6L Suzuki Samurai/Geo Tracker, it is 40 tooth, same as the 2.2 Cam gear but with the same mounting type of the Neon SOHC cam gear,to match the 20 tooth "2.2" Crankshaft gear so the next is the timing belt length........does anybody know if the length of the timing belt affect the timing in general?

Ok, I got everything out so I could get some pictures, don't mind some of the strange looking background, I had the head on the truck tailgate and didn't want to slide it around on the tailgate. The intake I was told is from a Stratus 2.4L, the throttle body I set on it is the one from the 2.5L turbo, I since rotated the TPS 180° so it has room for the plugs. The head and turbo are supposed to be from an SRT-4 and the guy I bought it from tried to use it on a 2.2L block, even tried 2 head gaskets! If anyone is conversant with the cam ID numbers let me know if they look right. Thanks!

85LeBaront2 I would like to know more about the head, what is the big elbow fitting on one side above the freeze plug? and where is the oil drain for the head back to the block? just wondering for my conversion. I think i found my Cam gear its from the 8 Valve 1.3/1.6 Suzuki Sidekick/Geo Tracker/Suzuki Samurai....It is 40 tooth cam gear and has the same tooth design as the 2.0/2.4L and 2.2/2.5, Next is for the timing belt Length......

I haven't actually put it together, I think big elbow is for oil drain back, he had two, one on the back near the belt, the other in the end of the head. I already have the crank sprocket, it is the one for the common block, the belt, I can look tomorrow and see if it has a PN on it.

I suspect he got them from FWD performance in Spring Texas. If they are the same as stock, any 89-94 2.2/2.5L should have them and the intermediate shaft and cam are interchangeable, just turned over.
