Came to put some updates and it is crazy how time flies. Feels like I was just at the radiator shop yesterday but it was 3 months ago. With the job change coming, going back to school at 50 yrs old, and too many projects I've learned is if you don't make the time for it, it won't happen. So yesterday I did find a radiator shop and dropped off the radiator. Going to take some time and money this weekeend and do some more. I'm looking into fans today. I still want the factory look and for what I plan on driving that should be fine.

Waiting for the radiator shop and decided to get the fan ready. My memory isn't the best anymore but I know without a doubt I have never had a fan motor this difficult to pull off. After getting down to just a shaft I ended drilling it out. Now to clean up the fan and make sure it will still work. After all the beating. I have two fan shrouds and blades with the same stock number. I know they fit the regular radiator, not sure about the GLHS. Although one motor is shorter and my car has a different motor number. I don't have my parts book with me. Worse case I'll find out when I get the radiator back.

They had two different fan motors and fan blades for the 86 GLHS. First one was made by Hayden. It used an aluminum spacer/adapter that was around 3/4" thick. The second one was made by Siemens. To the best of my knowledge the Siemen style would be the correct one for your application. It doesn't look like either one is correct for your 87 GLHS, as it should be larger diameter and a bit thinner in depth.
I do have a NOS one that I could take a picture of if needed. The one that Steve. S sells at TD parts is very close to the Siemens style. The one on the right looks like GLHT to me. The one on the left looks like shroud is correct, but looks like motor has been replaced at some point. The motors were originally riveted, not bolted together, at the shroud.

Both shrouds are the same. They have the stamp # 21089. It doesn't match to the parts catalog I have for that year, the all start with Chrysler 4 #'s. Dealer part #'s maybe? I'll check it again tomorrow. I thought the GLHS was a shorter motor, even retail auto parts show different motors.

The shroud was trimmed by the Whittier plant where the top (return) hose passes close to it. They were all over the map when it came to this cutout. Some got a little carried away with the pneumatic shears. You can see the cutout on the one and not the other. Both were also altered by the top right corner of the shroud.

Oh ok. I thought that one was damaged so I was cleaning up the other for painting

Got a call from the radiator shop this morning. A recore runs about $750. He said it's got about 20% pluggage and a stress crack but he believes he can clean and repair it for $150. I'm going for the $150 now. He also said he found an nos radiator for $350. I was ready to jump on that until we verified it was different. IL get it back in time to start back on my work set so any major work is waiting until next week.

The only cutting on the shroud I can tell is on the bottom of one. If that's the right one for this car I'll have to wrangle to motor off of it too. If memory serves me correct, there wasn't a fan in place but one inside the car. The other is off a regular Shelby parts car

Surprised that NOS assembly was already trimmed to accept tye upper radiator hose ad I thought thar was done at Shelbys place and assumed per car. Maybe they just had someone cutting them and just stacking them up for use.

The stamp on the housing "21089" as well as the stamp on the blade are the same as what I have. My sticker also says 38oz. Worse case I may have to trim my shroud but I don't have factory hoses and don't recall any issues when I put it in the car

This NOS one has paint on the modified areas. So obviously the change was rectified before the production ran for the spare parts. This one almost looks to be powdercoated as well. The Whittier cars did nothing to prevent rust in these modified areas. Under the hood pad, the bracing was also modified for the radiator cap clearance too.

OUCH
I've worked in a few rad shops
I also worked at a local rad core manufacturer..that's still in business as far as I know

I've fixed rads
I've stacked rad cores
I've baked rad cores
I've packaged and delivered ..rad cores
hell I even stapled my hand with an industrial box stapler..

while packaging..rad cores

I suggested, a couple of times here and on TM,..maybe I should go ask about makin some turbo mopar ..
rad cores
..but I couldn't hear anyone say anything over the roar of the crickets...

guess nobody wants one till they need one..
and me being "a rad guy".. saved 4 of em for..me
so I'll never need to go ask for myself

Well, if I have the option some day, I'll get some extras.
Picked up the radiator in the way to work today. Some welds on the tank but it's painted so not real visible if you're not looking. I should get it in by Wednesday. Also stacking up some brake and suspension parts to hopefully rebuild that by the end of the month. This car has been sitting too long.
