I'm wanting to do an FMIC on my shelby but need some guidance, advice, tips. I'm going to put it right behind the front bumper against the vents and running pipe from either side, and I'm also keeping the A/C.
I've had the intercooler pictured below laying around for years and was wondering if it would work with my stock T2 setup. If so I can just buy a pipe kit and go from there. And yes I'll be using 2.5 inch aluminum pipe
please forgive me for the blurry picture.

Currently looks like this

Intercooler I have 27 inches long

Gain? Yeah, it'll be in the car rather than on your shove.

Get under the car, start using your measuring tape and see what space you have and start from there.

Everybody's prefer install is going to be different, principle is all the same, mount the the intercooler, run the pipes, and done.

I just did this to my 89. I think it's like 25 inches between the headlight motors. Your intercooler looks like it might be to big. My AC works so I kept it. I just welded a couple brackets to the radiator support, and ran the pipes under the support. I went with 2 1/4 inch pipes too. It's a little more money than going 2 1/2. But things are a tight fit by the alternator so I just figured it would be less headaches.

I would greatly appreciate it if you'd post some pictures, and info on where you got all your parts to do it with. Your setup sounds very similar to what I'm trying to do

Thank you everyone that's been generous enough to read and reply to this post. Keep it coming

Heres what I did on my 90 daytona 2.5. Pipes go through hole I cut, shown in pics. Kept AC condensor. Had to move radiator overflow bottle. Works like a champ! Used stainless steel rivets to attach intercooler to brackets. Had to cut some of the radiator crossmember too.

Uhm...that may have been the time I converted to a lawn mower battery too. I forget if that was required to fit the pipes or not. I may have done it to fit the water injection bottle.

Ya know...I think maybe our cars are not similar enough to make what I did useful to you...oh well..

This is what I'm going to do....this is the setup from up top I'm going for ...

So far I've already bought all 2.5 inch piping, couplers, t-clamps, and a bar and plate 27x5.5x2.5 inch intercooler. I may start on it next weekend and will try to remember to post pictures

You want the restriction to be at the intake valve, not at the intercooler, having it at the inter cooler will cause lag and boost drop. Lag because it takes longer to get through the i/c because it is restrictive and boost drop because it will take more boost before the ic than what you get out the other side.

A larger ic decreases lag and boost drop by allowing more air to get through it and to the intake valve. This allows the turbo to make more boost at the intake valve quicker by not having to spin as fast to push the same amount of air. This produces cooler outlet temps from the compressor housing and less back pressure in the exhaust by being able to open the WG sooner.

run the larger one . mount it IN the bumper(the actual metal part). you WILL have to cut a hole in the radiator support if you want to run it in front of the radiator. email me i can send you pics on what to do to the actual bumper to fit it better. just before you start the instal do you at least have a sawzall ? i have found the best way to cut aluminium pipes was with a laminate blade on a chop saw. this actually works great on sillycone couplers too

Thank you for wanting to participate norm. I have decided to use the larger one and have already pawned the smaller one on a honda guy (go figure). I've bought a few new tools and a little material for this little project, unfortunately a zaw saw never crossed my mind. I bought a new chop saw/cut-off saw, bigger drill, and a hole saw set. Gotta love harbor freight.
I'd like to see pictures of your install and please share any input and helpful advice you may have. I can use someone with experience on this particular project.
