Stolen Fuel Tanker Missing
Rig Stolen From Energy Supplier In Frederick

POSTED: 12:13 p.m. EST February 20, 2003

FREDERICK, Md. -- Frederick police are asking law enforcement agencies all over the eastern part of the country to look out for a 2,300-gallon fuel tanker that was stolen from an energy supplier's lot.

Frederick police said Griffith Energy workers noticed Thursday morning that the gate of the lot had been tampered with and that there had been a break-in at the lot. Then they noticed that the service truck was missing.

It was a split tanker carrying kerosene and fuel oil.

Police Lt. Bryan Brown said city police notified State Police, the FBI and issued a bulletin to law enforcement agencies east of the Mississippi River.

Brown said his officers have no indication the theft is terrorism-related, but they are taking the report seriously.

Griffith's headquarters in Cheverly had no comment on the break-in.

Never thought about that Dave! :D I must say, paying $15.00 to put half a tank in the GT the other day was a bit much! 8* x(
