so the fuel guage in my 88 z is limp the tank pump and sender all look brand new would the best route be an after marker guage? also the temp guage isnt very accurate i replace the temp sending unit should i replace it with a mechanical or electric how hard is that?

First verify that the wiring is not the issue.

The pump and sender share the same external ground but the wiring is spliced...

1)Have you verified continuity from the sender connector to ground?
If OK...
2)Disconnect the sender connector, with the key on/engine off ground the signal line.
The gauge should move to "Full".
If it does replace the sender.
3)If it does not disconnect the cluster connector and check continuity from the sender connector to the cluster connector.
If there is continuity repair the cluster circuit board and/or replace the gauge.
