So I Just bought a 92 Daytona 3.0L with a few coolant leaks (waterpump, freeze plugs, and a few hoses). After fixing all of these things I am having heater issues such as once it warms up it blows lukewarm air, but if I turn the heater off for a few minutes and turn it back on it blows nice and hot for a few seconds before it goes back to lukewarm. Some of the things I have come up with is air in the system or the thermostat is stuck open. I'm not really sure what is/could be the cause of this. Thanks for the help.
My first thought would be that heater core is clogged up... You can try flushing, that may help, but likely you may have to replace the heater core.
Thinking about it a little more, I wonder what the odds are that the previous owner used some kind of stop leak to try and control the coolant leaks. Many of the products will clog a heater core... If so likely you will have to replace the heater core. On my site (Kelly-Mulhern Performance) I have instructions on how to replace the heater core...
I just hate to replace the heater core to find out that, that wasn't the issue. But if I don't figure out anything by the weekend, I will probably just spend the weekend replacing the heater core.
Try replacing your cap. I was having the same issue. My cap wasn't allowing the system to build enough pressure to push out all the air. Changed the cap, built pressure, pushed all the air out (which I thought I'd already achieved), and wellah I have perfect heat
