Horn problems........................

Hi there, after reading through the forums and not getting any answers I decided to post my horn problem. I bought my 1990 Daytona ES (3.0 L) with a few problems (lights didn't pop up, etc.) and managed to get them fixed myself, but this horn problem is the worst. I tested the old stock horns and noticed that they didn't work after putting them on the battery, so I bought some FIAMM trumpet horns (one high note, one low note), and they still did not work. I had to argue with many parts places for a horn relay and finally after getting the right relay (12 V 5 pin), I still have no power to the horns. I tested the connections with an ohm meter and I have continuity and now I am stumped. :bang head PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Welcome To TD!!!

You do not want to use an Ohmmeter unless you are checking circuit continuity.

The Horn Button controls the ground side of the Horn Relay Pull In Coil.
Start at the Relay and with a 12 volt test lamp or digital voltmeter check that 2 power sources are present at the relay connector with the key on.
a 12 volt test lamp also from ground to the horn plugs showed me i was getting power to the horns
If you are getting power which is what the relay supplies then you have a ground issue or faulty horns.
If the horns are single wire they ground thru the mounting bracket/body, if they are 2 wire there is an external ground wire.
I believe one of the relays under the hood is triggered by the horn button and supplies power to the hood.
edit: Naj covered that.. Sorry.. ;)

Okay it is a 12 volt SPST relay, the bk/rd wire (horn button) is on terminal 85, the dg/rd wire which connects to my horns is on the 87 terminal. One red is hooked on the 30 terminal (hot wire) and the other wire which is connected to my power lock door relay (86 which is also red). Now I checked with a light tester and everything seems fine and when I jump terminal 30 (hot) to the 86 terminal (power lock door relay), my car horn honks. It's a 5 point relay which 87a is not being used at all. Been trying to follow some wiring diagrams from Snap-On, but I can't figure anything out. They are 2 prong horns.
Yes I have been testing with the test lamp at the relay

30 (hot) to 87 (DG/RD)
30 (hot) to 86 (BK/RD)
and lastly 30 (hot) to 85 (Radio and Amp Relay) which makes the car horns honk.

All of the light on the test lamp goes and I have used the test lamp from 30 (hot) to all of the connections in the steering wheel, The light goes but no honk. I am thinking it might be a ground from the steering column ( that clip maybe? It is grounded to my stereo) or maybe a bad connection somewhere in the BK/RD leading to the wheel (clock spring maybe?). Everything in the steering wheel is fine and around the ignition switch, but the buttons don't work.
Remove the airbag and check continuity from the steering wheel switches to the relay ground terminal.
there is no air bag and sorry I should've mentioned that, but yes I used a 12 v test lamp and the ohm meter and there is that is why I am thinking it is a clock spring, but how do you check for a faulty one? I also resodered the headlamp control module so my head lights work again, would it be wiring some where for the diode package?
Now I checked everything and now my car horn won't stop so it is most prob a short. lol:smashfreakB:
