I hate L-body door handles...

But I'm getting good at changing them. This one only took me something like 10 minutes from start to finish...and part of that was digging up some needle nose pliers and staring at the hot red-head that was moving in next door. :thumb:

Mine needs changed also, the passenger door has to be opened from the inside.
If it's so damn easy, then why can't i get the MFer's off very easily? There's a rather large, bastardized looking plastic thing on the rod that i removed with needle nose pliers. Then it seems like you have to turn the handle 90 degrees to guide it off of the rod..

Is there a way to get them off without busting those plastic things all to hell? I can pull the engine and replace it in a matter of hours, but these &*&@^%#(@)ing door handles are killing me. Funny funny.

yeah. The plastic clip holds the rod in. Rod goes through the plastic gromit and then the clip swings 90 degrees and holds it in place. Just use your finger to pop the clip off and then pull the rod out. It's really easy once you figure out what the plastic thing is doing.

Make sense? I don't think I'm explaining it clearly.
L-body door handles = anti-theft.
Im not familiar with L-bodies...soo whats the problem with the handles??
They tend to break off. And it happens all the god-darn time. It's just kind of a headache because you try to convince your friends that your Horizon isn't a piece of crap...and the fact they have to open your door for you after they climb in just fuels their fire.

But then you tell them that you just got 30 mpg while driving it like a racecar around town for a week and it kind of shuts them up ;)

Remote door poppers.. Normally I think they suck, as they're problematic. But in the case of an L body, they're probably better than stock. ;)
I want to try a set bad. Remove the strip that goes down the side of the car and fill it in with body filler...remove the doorhandles so its just a smooth line all the way down the body. Use a popper kit and it would be a slick setup.
i have rigged a few cars up with hooking the key cylinder with a rod to the door latch and use the key to pop open the door

Yeah, you're making sense.. Sort of. LoL. I think this is just something you have to do a bunch of time before you get the hang of it. Like trying to explain to someone how to ride a bicycle, or a skateboard. You just have to do it.

hmm.. my omni has one that works pretty good, one that you have to do the push in the door while lifting up and jerking the handle thing, and both back doors have to be opened from the inside

i love omnis :D

Adjust that thing pronto or you will know first-hand what the repair process is like!

;)

The new one that I just put on opens nicely with a nice crisp pop.
well the locks are messed up anyway so im already used to getting in through the hatch :D

i make sure the guy im going to run sees it too... adds to the already high embarassment factor :thumb:

Sounds like your messing with the wrong end of the rod. It's easiest to disconnect the bottom clip and pull the handle out of the door with the rod attached.

I'm taking a summer class right now...so I don't think I'll be able to make all of SDAC. If I get my van running, I'm definitely going to be there for the dyno day on the 25th.

Have any pictures of it :)
