Interesting Swap

So my friend Tim has a Daytona 3.0, 5 speed.
He blew the motor and decided he wants to swap the MIVEC 3.8 6g75 out of the new eclipses into it.

Is this a valid swap option?
He seems to think it will bolt in and bolt to his trans so all he'll need is the motor and ecu.

Will it really bolt in?

If any of his research is correct and he can do it he would be sittin on 265hp.

He's right about the bellhousing. Whether it fits under the hood, behind the radiator, in front of the firewall, and how to route his exhaust, is all something else.

the motor has a taller deck height which moves the intake up and the exhaust manifolds out. It is a bigger motor in height and width. There MAY be issues because of that.

Also, he would probably have to route his exhaust UNDER the k-frame.

Im not sure how those motors get their crank position signal but if it comes off the flywheel, he'd need to find out a way to mod one of our older flywheels to have those triggers because im pretty sure the flywheel that motor comes with wont fit inside an a543 bellhousing.

it will bolt up to the trans with s few lite mods to the bellhousing. BUT, the 3.8 is a tall block 6GXX motor. it is about 12mm taller AND it is a 24 valve so it is wide too. I have a 3.5 i will be playing with one day and the motor will fit but he will have to build his own right and front motor mounts. the routing of the exhaust will be fun too!!! it is doable BUT it is a big job!! look at this thread! Stew installed a 24 valve 3.0 in his Shadow. it can point the way to installing the motor. and he WILL have to run megasquirt!!!!

bolting up the trans is the hardest part in my opinion.

i say go for it!

Megasquirt would make all the wiring a sinch
I used to have a JA body with a 2.0l magnum engine in it (slow as piss still) but on Stratusphere.org they had some guys who swapped out the 2.5l 6g72 to the 3.8l mivec
I don't think he's concerned with hood clearance. Sounds like he's gettin motor and ecu. He wants to make custom manifolds so he can run the exhaust like factory.

I still can't believe it's a valid option.
Doesnt Kreel have one of those motors?
and why will he need MS if he uses the 75's ecu?

the 75 ECU was never an option for any dodge. no ECU to use. all of the cars, trucks, and vans that used the 74 and 75 were Mitsubishi so there is no ECU to plug in to the dodge harness. i guess if he really wanted to he could get the harness from the donor car and graft it into the dodge harness, but with all that work he would be stuck with factory specs. where as the MS would be cheaper and easier to install and is fully adjustable.
makes sense. I just recall my two swaps the time spent grafting harnesses. Woulda saved a lot if I'd've known about MS.

yes. he bought a wrecked 4g eclipse

any 6g motor is a valid option for a swap if your willing to make custom mounts and move the firewall back or the radiator forward etc.

imo, the hardest part for a fwd motor swap is getting a tranny and axle setup that will work...... and sense ours just bolt on, then the hard part is over with as long as you accept that everything else has to be custom.
megasquirt is easier to work with than getting a 75 harness working because of how much support the megasquirt has behind it.

you can run any harness and ecu you want... as long as you know what wires do what and a little common sense.
I've done the whole wiring thing. Swapped a T-bird SC 3.8 into an RX7 and used the factory harnesses. I don't think he has, so doing the MS would prolly be easier for him.

Yep, that's right. It's sitting on the ground right now. The MiVEC project is so far down on the list its not even funny

don't feel bad!!! my 6G75 is sitting on the floor too!!!! sadly with 24 bent valves!!!!LOL
So he wasn't full of himself. Lol. Sounds like it'd be hella fun once it was done.
probably be really fast in a gutted shadow or even better, gutted omni with some slicks
Gutted tona, should still be pretty wicked.
So this kinda has me thinking about runnin my 72 til she blows and swapping the 75 in.
