I was looking at the rsautosports site for the mega squirt kit. First thing I must say is I run a f.a.s.t kit on my dragcar for $3500, and I have a Bigstuff kit on my Dart that cost $3000, Now I look at this kit it costs $400 WTF. That is awesome if it works well. The one question I do have is why does it say for 420a car only? Neon, stratus, dsm. Why can it not be used on a 2.2 8valve motor? I know I have read of guys running it on 8 valves, just looking for some input thanks.

It has some modifications for the Neon crank trigger which is a HEP and non standard from the normal MegaSquirt.

Fortunately they are compatible with our HEP so it should work just fine we just don't need the extra coil driver and will have to change the configuration in software to make the crank trigger to use a TBI distributor instead of a 420a crank trigger. This same area of the configuration has to change in order to use the SRT4 crank trigger anyway though.

You can also get the kits from a number of other places and do all of the mods yourself. I actually have an older MS 2.2 board that I am modifying to do what I need with some extra add on boards, etc.

I think the main reason it is neon only is because they dedicate their support to Neons. In order for it to work you would need to reflash the chip with some modifications rather than having it run with the code they provide.

I'd say do some more reading on the megasquirt forums so you can understand how they setup the various triggering mechanisms (distributor based, vr sensor/toothed wheel, etc). The megasquirt hardware itself will probably not need to be changed depending on how you decide to trigger it.

diyautotune.com has more generic MS builds and tons of other neat stuff so you may want to check them out too.
