ok im still in the process of figuring this out so mabey someone experienced this before and can help..? ok it started off just surging at a light throttle with no smoke or rough idle :). the next few days the surging increased a bit. def. a little bit more noticable..then the next day..like day 4..she started smoking out the back. still has surging.. foot off the throttle completely and idle is good. guessing its running rich i presume..?

o yea this is a 86 shelby charger. t1.

already verified cts is good, ignition and cam timing is ok, vacuum is good off manifold. fpr is ok. ignition system is good. still gonna test the map sensor and injectors. n e other thoughts and or ideas? thanks all!

Have you checked fault codes?

Your issue sounds like a vacuum leak and loss of vacuum to the Map Sensor.

Surging and black smoke(rich) without any fault codes...
I am assuming vacuum was holding steady at 18 " HG even with the surge?
Have you verified fuel pressure is in specs?
Have you removed the vacuum line from the FPR to verify no raw fuel and diaphragm did not rupture?

Signal and Signal Return.

Not sure which are which BK, WT, RD wires.
One is a 5 Volt Reference which should be easy to find, the other 2 are going to be signal and signal return.
