I know this does'nt really fit into this category, but i dont know where else to put it. I know alot of guys on here have bikes, so here goes. I bought a 93 Kawasaki zx600 for $400. It has 14,00 miles on it and its in pretty good shape minus some plastic. It has a problem, because it always will shift in 2nd gear, then pop out? Is this a very common linkage problem, or is it worse?

Worse.

Much worse.

Sounds like the engagement dogs are worn off 2nd gear and what ever gear it meshes with. Missing a gear then griiiiinding it will do that. Usually 2nd because it's a longer throw from first, past neutral, into 2nd.

Nothing to "lock" it in gear.

To fix it: Remove engine, split cases, remove gearset, install new gears.

Bummer.

What about a bent shift fork? This is what alot of other people have told me. Is this a likely cause as well?

R/T is right, my brother had one the same year that did the same thing. It's a lot of work to do yourself, and a dealership will charge you an arm and a leg.
He just rode his easy when in 2nd, and then hammered down in the other gears!
