Im not familiar with the old VW 1.7's So I thought someone might on here.

Today the interior light got stuck on for whatever reason and drained my battery. After boosting the car it proceeded to squeal upon seemingly every time the engine was under load. I.E Shifting gears, up or down even just sitting in neutral giving it a little rev.

There is a little black wear on the one side of the belt running to the alternator, Im not sure if this is where its squealing from or if its always been that way.

Any thoughts or ideas would be awesome

Thanks =D

I'm not experienced with 1.7s but on the 2.2 the bushings for the alternator mounting can get old, cracked, worn, and out of shape, causing your belt to become misaligned and squeal and wear faster. I'm sure the 1.7 is similar in that respect.
