'96 Dodge Caravan 3.0

I just bought a new transmission 670LATE (31TE) after blowing my old transmission with 300K.

My situation: Looking at the torque converter, the right hand side of the bell housing seem to have two openings for the dowel pin. The left hand side has one.

the upper opening on right hand side is painted red as indication that the dowel pin goes there. However, it does not seem to line up. the lower opening seem to fit but is not marled.

I called the builder and they claimed it needs to be the lower (unpainted) opening while the other opening could be for cooling flow.

Anyway, is anyone able to tell me which opening I need to use?

Thanks in advance....

Whichever opening lines up is the one to use. Or remove the dowel pin if it causes problems, it is not really necessary.
