So the other day I was minding my own business not paying much attention to what was going on around me when all of the sudden the vehicle in front of me decided to give her... While texting in the driver seat heard something mighty crazy and looked up and saw more black smoke than I'd ever seen... Gotta say I was afraid...

45mph truck in front of me broke lose.

At the next light got next to the truck asked what horse? 900. What tq? 1,400. The truck had a stack in the bed that was bigger than a 5 gallon pail.

Truck? Duramax...

I know there's 5.9's running like this but I gotta say it was truly amazing to see a 3.5ton truck move like that!!!

The 5.9s have been at or the top for a long time. Now the playing field is going to bring them to dominate again with the Indy head for the Cummins. Go from a 125 CFM head to a 300 CFM Indy head...... We'll be seeing mods done to the bottom end of the Cummins engine finally lol.

At Muncie this one guy shows up with a Cummings powered Ram on a trailer...running high 9s, low 10s.....but he also unhooks the tow Ram and runs low 12s with it!!!!

Back in 2004, 2005, 2008, and 2009 VW had a Touareg V10 Diesel 5 liter that was rated at 310 hp and 553 ft lbs of tq...mated to a 6 speed automatic. The older ones would do 144 mph while the newer ones were only running 130. I have seen them run 14.8s bone stock at about 95 mph. Only 1800 rpm had it running 70 mph. It was NOT built for mpg...15 city and 20 highway.

it's true the cummins have been the fastest diesel truck on the track for years, but the duramax market is catching up.

there's a guy runnin around goes by Demitry, i dont know his last name.
He's got a red 4-door, 2500 dirty max, that last year at Rocky Mountain Raceway broke 9.8 in the qrtr, and it's his daily driver.

There was a dyno competition held in utah at a place called INDUSTRIAL INJECTION SERVICE, and he dyno'd 1400hp, and i think it was dang near 2000lbs of tq!!

it is increadible what these things will put down with just a few minor bolt on's

i mean i've got a 07 duramax, with the LBZ motor, 6 speed allison trann's, and only have a few bolt on's and i dyno'd 520hp, 784tq.

THE POPE- i can't wait for that indy head, i got guys that are chompin at the bit for one.. there's another company out there though called Hamilton cams, there in texas, there doing there own 12valve cummins heads and have got some amazing results so far... but they've had bottom end parts for the ford , chevy & dodge for awhile now.. at least 7 years. carrillo rods, arp hardware, girdles, forged pistons... it's alot of fun! everybody should own a diesel in my mind! :thumb:

BUT!

The wonderful part of the diesel owners life is; they last for 300,000 miles, and you don't have to tune or screw around with plugs, wires, 3000 mile oil change intervals, or any problem climbing a hill with a trailer.

The RELIAILITY goes out the window, if you hot rod your gasser, or if you bolt on stuff to your diesel. I need my truck to last for many years, so don't play...so don't pay.

And $10,000 for a Cummins rebuild is NOT fun.

i disagree about that. we have an 04.5 cummings with now about 170miles?? 245000km with bolts on and we have beaten the living heck out of the thing since we got it brand new.... ever street race with a 29' holiday trailer on? only work that had to be done... bend a from driveshaft spinning in 4wd. 1 injector got sent back to chrysler for testing they said they have never seen an injector rupture like that (truck was driven for 200 km pouring diesel into the oil pan, dipstick came out with clean diesel on it) and a waterpump...
