Refer to post #13 in this thread, you can fit the pipes with a TI rad, just need to make holes and/or trim the rad support sheet metal.

BTW, it runs and works great, and fits very nicely!

But that pic is of a tripple core not a SRT unit. Also my 91 has working A/C that I would like to keep. Has anyone run their piping under the front support without ripping it open on every slight hill, that may be my next option. I hope to see those pics also.

I know our intercooled trucks at work all have the hotside tubes insulated and the cold side tubes are just left open on their way over to the intake....I'm thinking on the omni I'll insulate both when I do it.

Why is everyone think psi drop is bad?
Doesn't it mean the more psi drop the colder the air is getting therefore decreasing air density=psi drop?
Unless of coures it's leaking or something but thats different.
Or does restriction to flow create psi drop?

If I don't make sense just ignore me :rolleyes:

^^If my turbo produces 18psi but my IC drop is 3 psi at that level, I'm losing that boost ending up at 15psi, therefore you gain the boost back as it where when you upgrade to a unit with less of a drop. I'm sure TurboMinivan will give a better example. . .

the psi drop across an intercooler is mostly due to the resistance of the intercooler, not temperature drop. Typically the bigger the intercooler, the less resistance there is to flow through the intercooler, and the less drop you will have in boost pressure, which is what were are after, lots of cooled boost!

Some installation pics!!

im000803.jpg -- driver's side view from top. You can see where I had to cut some sheet metal and bend it out of the way. Also visible is my 'custom' ( :thumb: ) 1/8"x1" flat stock radiator bracket. The factory TIV radiator bolts in the stock location to the bracket, and for the bottom part of the radiator bracket, I made a spacer and bolted it to the lower radiator support. All mounting points are rubber insulated.

im000806.jpg -- view from bottom, driver's side looking up. You can see where I had my brackets TIG welded on the intercooler.

Also you can see where I drilled 2 holes per bracket (2 brackets total) and bolted it to the bottom of the radiator support. Here I have already drilled the hole and am now installing the other bolt and nut.

I can't remember the measurements of the brackets, but it was very simple to fab up.
Intercooler piping was pretty easy. I used 2 1/4" OD aluminized steel piping and 2 1/4" ID rubber hose and bends. The factory lower IC hose was used, and only the upper hose (from intercooler to the throttle body) had to be custom made.
Overall installation was pretty easy once I figured out how to do it!! :D I feel like this was the least invasive, and simplest way to fit an SRT4 intercooler in my car.
By the way, my car has functional A/C. I used a '89 or '90 (can't remember what year exactly) minivan condenser, which fits nicely in front of the stock TIV radiator, and leaves room open where the factory IC was.

Im not a genious here, but if people with SRt-4's upgrade their stock IC, with no other changes, and pick up quite a few HP, wouldnt that mean their stock IC isnt all that great?

From what I understand, SRT4's that are known to run ~11 sec 1/4 mile times with the stock SRT4 IC have no flow issues up until that point.
Plus, it's a helluva lot better than a stock VNT or T2 IC, right?

In my case, going from a stock VNT IC to the SRT4 unit netted me a 2 psi boost increase, and a *little* quicker spool (still full boost at approx 3600-3800 rpm) with no other changes. I'm running an RP stage 2 T3/T4 hybrid turbo and 19 psi of boost on the street. :thumb:

I'd be willing to bet that the people that gain the most from upgrading intercoolers on their SRT-4's are people pushing the stock turbo to it's absolute limits. Where a tiny little turbo is throwing out so much heat that the stocker heat soaks quickly. I think the stocker has good flwo for well beyond 300hp, but you would need an efficient compressor to to keep it happy.

Did you route that under the car on the passenger side? Any more pics of that passenger side. I am curious because i mounted one in my 88 tona.The engine is not going in until next week and i am concerned of clearance issues.

Yes it come in on the passenger side, dumps down to the bottom of the car, makes a 90^ right turn towards the driver's side, another 90^ straight up to the sky, and finally another 90^ to the throttle body.
