Starter/ Grounding problem

2192 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  charger R/T
I have a 91 R/t. Occasionally when I go to start the car I get nothing. The radio and all accessories work fine, but no starting. In the past I've had to wiggle the ground out plug that goes from the negative battery straight down to the starter. I think the plug that attaches to the starter is bad and i'm wondering if there is a way to direct connect the starter to ground, or where I can buy a new one... Thanks a million.

the starter gets its ground from being bolted to the engine. There are only 2 wires that go to the starter one is a positive battery cable and the other is the solenoid wire coming from the starter relay.

I would check to see if the wires are getting crispy. I might also suggest a grounding kit from fwd performance. There is also a main chassis ground behind the battery. Check those and let us know.

BTW welcome to the forum :thumb:
I guess the ground id good, what i need is the power plug from the battery. Does anyone know how or where to get one?

What exactly do You mean by power plug? Just the terminal or power wire as well? Here in Canada I'd just go to Canadian tire or Napa. I'm sure in the US you could go to an auto zone or napa or some car parts store. Hope this helps!!
are you talking about the one wire coming off the positive battery post that has the quick disconnect? Does the car has the original battery cable ends or has some one cut them off and replaced them with aftermarket ends? If they have been replaced they were good repair ends when cars used just one cable at the end. But they fail to do a good job when more then one cable is hooked up to them. If the car has them take them apart and check to make sure all the wires are making a good conection in them.
