So I'm ordering a new qxle for my 86 Glh. Since that needs to be done I figure may as well upgrade the front suspension while everything's off. So I need suggestions for a suspension kit that will be a major improvement and will lower it.
Thanks guys,
Brian

not sure if there's a full suspension 'kit' available anywhere..
you'll have to find the pieces from separate vendors

I would start by dropping K-member.
that can then be cleaned/painted; sway bar, steering rack too.

remove LCA's, clean/paint those, replace F&R bushings with poly.

now you can clean, inspect and replace if necessary:
struts, strut mounts, hub/wheel bearings, brakes, ball joints, tie rod ends, sway bar bushings

for lowering, I would simply cut one coil off the springs.
make sure you have fresh shocks/struts ...

nope,
but much more than 1 coil (e.g. 1.5 coils) will be too much,
resulting in little available strut travel, and unfavorable LCA angle..

start with 1/2 or 3/4 coil if you wish...

cutting a coil spring will do two things:
lower the car's Center of Gravity (Cg), and
stiffen the spring (increase the spring rate).

both will improve your handling

i would poly all around the front like detobias said, as it will increase your handling

if you dont want to cut springs, you can grab a set of lowering springs from Cindy at Fwdperformance.com

heres my 86 Omni's K-frame ready for reinstall
used some 'black cherry' on the LCA's :)

Nice! Looks Sweet! But what's with the spacer looking thing between the sway bar bushing and the control arm?
