I just swapped my 91 oil pump into my 88 turbo block and forgot that the only gasket avail is the cork
However I still have my 91 common block with the bigger oil pan which I can use a 1 piece gasket. Sooo
If I change out the lower cover that sits behind the timing belt sprocket will this pan fit.

A better question might be will that lower cover fit on the 88 block.

The front seal holder will not fit an 88 block directly.You can drill and tap the block for the newer seal,but it's a real pain.We changed a CB to use an 86 crank front seal and square tooth belt.IMO it's better to use an 86(or88) pump and your old pan.

What is the best way to seal an 88 pan? It's such a huge pain to get it to seal.

spray both sides of the cork gasket with copper spray. I do it to both cork and paper/cardboard-like gaskets

I only use the end rail rubber seals then the "Right Stuff down the sides --no leaks!I hate cork gaskets on ANYTHING!

I know, I hate cork gaskets too, They are worthless!!!

I don't guess anyone makes a 1 piece gasket for the 88 pan?

I dont believe there is a one piece for an 88 pan.

I like cork gaskets, less mess over RTV, and it doesn't leak:thumb: Just can't overtighten

rtv is the way to go. thats all i use, that's what the factory used, so why not use it, just don't use blue, that only belongs on sb chevys ooozing all over the orange paint. just dont over due the sealer, seen a gm 2.5 blown up from so much sealer on the pan it mixed with the oil and plugged the pickup screan.
