Hi All,

I'm getting ready to buy a new clutch for my TII (factory) 89 GTC with a 555.

The car is purely stock. I was thinking about the TII-TIII combo kit that fwdperformance has. Says it's good for stock and slightly modded cars. I may do a small mod in the near future, but nothing big. I also saw the kit (FWD-P Mcleod Street Clutch Kit ) for 250 - 275 HP. I'm just wondering how this would be like in a stock application. How it would hold up over the years as far as longevity. I'd rather the clutch works for a long time like the original instead of working great for a short period of time. As it is, the original has over 150,000 on it. Any thoughts from someone that has used these clutches. I'm sure the first I listed would be fine, but want some othere opinions.
Thanks

Why not go with the TII Sachs? Well for one thing, I don't know the first thing about them. I want to get something from FWD and I saw the stock TII with the TIII PP. The price looks good and it would be nice to have a little more grab from the PP. I'm usually fine with the stock equiptment, but was wondering about the Mcleod set-up. It would be nice to have something stronger for those situations when you need it, but I don't want to sacrifice longivety. As it is, I put off things like clutch and head gasket jobs long enough. I haven't driven my TII Shelby Daytona in 4 years because of a clutch. LOL. If it was my daily driver, I'd get the job done, but as long as I have something else to fall back on.........You know.

Well i ordered the TIII/TII clutch kit from FWDperformance.com and the Pressure plate is a Sachs unit, unsure who made the disc though.

Since its a debate of not liking Sachs. I haven't installed it yet, will this weekend, but it has to be better than my zoom clutch starting to slip with only around 15k on it :(

I wouldnt use a sachs clutch unless there is some kind of warranty if it fails. I know a few people that have had them and they worked great, but then some of them have failed too. I think i might get a clutchnet clutch if i can afford something better than stock when i have the transmission out. (probably after i replace the 525, becasue i dont think a stronger clutch would increase its life any. lol)

Just to satisfy my own curiosity ... what number is on the "T3" PP?

As far as them being bad kit's .... there are literally millions of them out there, in cars. I don't doubt your friends word's Travis_k but, other factors could be the cause of their problems as well. ... like poor install, or rough break-in, not resurfacing the flywheel, etc. These Sach's clutches came installed from the factory as OEM kit's for the some T2's and T3's. T3's make 224HP ... lot's of the boys around here have put 150,000+ miles on 'em and are making more HP than that.

I've got a stock T2 kit in my daytona right now (and if roguetrip verify's something I suspect) that stock kit share's the T3 PP.
My use is in a 2.2 (A555) with +40's and a MP+ turbo. Exhaust is .63 housing into a ported manifold feeding 3" side exit. 20psi usually ... I've hit as much as 30psi. I haven't detected any slip. Clutch has about 4,000 miles on it and seems to me to be grabbing better than when I put it in. I was careful with the install and broke it in carefully. Of course, as with all things, YMMV.

Flywheel:
Sachs TYP MF 228
116 11035 SC70067E 02M03 62 HECHO EN MEXICO (i guess serial and "made in mexico"?)

Disc:
Sachs Valeo maybe 165-41(missing number)37

Clutch Release bearing:
AMS Automotive N092SA

They marked in white on the outer disc i can't read most of the numbers but there is another part that is in a square that says 3.30, think i'll try to get pics.

Oh, and is there where FWDperformance sends a hitman after me for telling what they are?

Are these good? they better be for 200$ compared to that last clutch kit was 100$

EDIT: i see here: http://replacement.autopartswarehou...odel=DAYT-IROC_RT-001&part=Clutch Kit&dp=true
you can get the clutch kit for a T3 for almost 60$ cheaper for the sachs stuff :(

You should be good to go with that kit. They say it can handle up to 260hp. The only thing I would be weary about is that you make sure you put in a good quality release bearing with it. My bro's pressure plate only lasted about 7,000kms because of a poor quality release bearing.

Turbo Charger,

Which kit are you saying I should go with? The TII/TIII or the high buck Mcleod? I'm thinking the TII-TIII myself. Everyone says It's a good one and both my 89 TII's went over 150,000 miles on the first clutches.

For what it's worth, I ran a T-II/T-III combo in my 12 second GLHS and it held no problem. That clutch had well over 100 passes of 5500 rpm clutch drops on slicks and it never gave a hit of trouble. It's a great combo for a mildly modified heavy car or a fairly modified light car.

I was reffering to the T2/T3 combo. :) I'm still at my 1st clutch in my 88 with 120,000 roughly kms and my 89's lasted about 146,000kms before it blew up. (that car had a rough life).

2 different kits for 2.2 turbo VIN A's

Anybody notice on that site they list a kit for the 92 Daytona 2.2 turbo VIN A IROC R/T at $143.xx

also at the bottom of that page there is a second kit listed for the 92 Daytona VIN A 2.2 turbo IROC R/T at $108.40

I wish there was a database to decipher Luk/Sachs kit #'s to individual clutch disk and pp part numbers.

Last time I purchased a replacement T3 clutch setup was from Dealer's Equipment in FL. I believe the kit ran ~140ish from them.
