Got this far and 2 days later, still here. WTF!!! ARRRRGGGGHHH!!!
Have to get car out of garage ASAP. Winter here!
Clip removed, everything is loose!
Removed tie down bolts for steering column.
There are NO screws or anything holding column on!
Only lock cylinder, which removal even Google couldn't find.
Screwdriver in only place that LOOKS like a lock pin.
No screws in plastic column cover.
Even tried chevy help because these are supposedly Saginaw steering columns.
Oh, and car stuck in limp mode with no codes.
No wonders people are afraid of repairs on the 84 ES600.

Need to tighten tilt steering bolts in this 84 ES 600.
I have the steering column down to where it is loose but cannot find a plug for column wiring to disconnect.
Removed steering column support nuts but wiring will only pull out as far as in picture.
Column pod section will not release.
Lock cylinder must have a pin or tab that will release it?
Straight pick is in only hole that looks like a lock pin but won't release.
Key was in 2nd click ignition position.

wiring all plugs into the switch assembly on the underside of the column

but you shouldn't
have to rip it completely apart to fix the tilt mechanism

I seem to remember some special pin I had to pull out with a special tool, but it's been many many years ago.

All of the electrical connections go to the wiring distribution block behind the fuse box (be careful of the wire for the hazards as it goes directly to the 50-way IIRC). The ignition switch sits on top of the column so it's not "fun" to get to (on purpose).
