My van does about 75 miles an hour in 5th gear at 3000 RPM. It is a 89 2.5L with an A-555 tranny. I just wanted to know if everyone else with this setup is doing about the same speed.

Okay, I just realized the tranny in my van was replaced with an A-555 from a 87 Shelby. With the original 89 tranny for the van I was getting about 80 mph at 3000 rpm. And this 87 tranny from the Shelby is getting 75 mph at 3000 rpm. Are the internals different between these 2 trannys??

I register 75 mph too at 3000 rpm with stock tires on my '89 CSX and my '90 Shelby Daytona. A-555 and A-568 respectively. Both have the same final ratio of 3.55, from the factory.
My final drive ratio is supposed to be 3.85...

Um.. you mean 3.85? I would think you would be higher in the mph because your tires are about an inch taller than mine on my 88. Seems to me you should be the same as '89 Shelby' above.

Mine are stock for my van...From that chart, I should be a little faster at the same rpm...
Your van came stock with that size? Actually ya your right. Your tires are about 1.2" taller than mine.. so in theory you should be at a higher mph.. probably around 80. Weird.. well all I can say is I had my Shelby at 3k in 5th just a few days ago so I know 75mph is right on. :D Hmmm.. well my tires are fairly new (3000kms on them) how bout yours? Maybe that would explain.

This is real weard...
I checked the speed again, and now between 78 and 79 mph at 3000.
I must have some Gremlins in my gears... :D
I need to get some 225 or 205/60 15's
