I would go with the shadow because the lighter weight... but the 89 has the common block, which is stronger.

Both good points, another bonus on the daytona though is that the tranny will be an A-555 which will be stronger then the shadow tranny, which is the 523 I belive, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. The 89 will also have the larger swingevalve and downpipe. But the Z is a pig. Shadow is a little more of a sleeper, doesn't look as sporty as the daytona.
yea thats also what i was lookin at the shadow for the sleeperness, ..I think they may be both 89's ....

I will let u kno more tommorow..Both are black and in great shape inside and out..But I kno for a fact that the shadow is really light ...and i wont feel guilty strippin the interior n shit..and relocating the fuel tank ....etc i wanna get it into the 13's Mid...at like 18 Psi ..
if the shadow is an 89 (common block engine = forged rods) then get the shadow. If its an 88, forget it, you'll prob throw a rod, especially at 18psi. 88 TIs had the crappy LW rods....

I luv my Z but Daytonas weigh waaaaaay too much.
I will find out what year it is tommorow...But how can i tell is theyre any HUGE difference in looks?...other than checkin the VIN...

i just wanna make it run the 13s with the big boys...
how much will that take boys?

and what sthe best performance sites here.....i kno of moparperformance.com But that sites changed and i dont understand it..:s ..

You guys have been a huge help do far tho thx
shadow had recessed sealed beam headlights in '87 and '88, then flush mount composite headlamps 89+

BADASS...u have msn or yahoo u have pm...I need lots of info here. thanks guys..
and thanks for the sites..
Both body styles I have owned for a good bit. The shadown is about 150 lbs. lighter depending on the options of the two cars. Better trans, block in the daytona. I think the daytona looks better and there is a little more room, but that is partially preference of the owner. What is right for me might not be right for you. Good luck.

My '87 CSX # 252 was 400# lighter than my '87 Shelby Z... Now the Z is about the same as my '87 ES...

well it seems alot smaller ...more of a sleeper n like i said i wouldnt feel quilty rippin apart a shadow..lol
just because you strip it doesnt mean you have to trash the parts you remove. lol i may be doing this to my tona.
most of the parts you need for 13's (safely/reliably) are on the tona. of course i favor the tona, as i own one. havent had it to the track, yet, real soon though...
look at the 12 second 89 tona on the dodge garage, 13's are pretty easy with just minor lightening and mods.
i just bought a t3/t4 50 trim turbo off a gentleman who was running 13.3 with a full weight 88 z tona, spare tire and jack. stock i/c, and head, though he was injecting water. the 13.3 was with slicks and i believe it was a 13.9 without. this was at 20 psi on a non-commonblock.
just an example, wish you the best of luck on your purchase. no matter what you buy, i think you will enjoy it:)
I love Gary's site and have learned tonnes from www.thedodgegarage.com, but his 89 red daytona seems to be an anomaly. I've got an 87 and have been trying for 3 years to get into the 13's never mind high 12's. Seems like Gary's got more luck with cars than most (except for his last misfortune with Relentless). Good luck with your car.

must be driver skill that gary has, not just luck;)
could it be that your still running way rich?? and a diesel i/c?? i know they cool well, but flow?? that tu cal should help tons.
lots of variables though...
i would be happy to just get mine to the track. lol
