Hey I was installing my '86 2.2 in my '92 Spirit and realized the earlier engine must take a different mount bracket to the front, radiator-side mount???

I never knew this...

Please tell me something or some combination of things out there will work...

Just from the pictures alone in the '86 and '92 parts manual the big difference only seems to be on the end that mounts to the frame. Did you even try the Spirit mount?

It sure looks like it would bolt up to an '86 engine.

Are you saying the Spirit mount/brackets don't fit the 1986 2.2??

I said the complete opposite. It looks like the Spirit mount would be a direct fit for the '86 engine and the '92 Spirit frame.

But you can't use an '86 engine mount because it won't bolt to the '92 frame of the car because that end is different. So I was saying that the stock Spirit mount might work with the older engine in your car.

Your easiest choice would be to lower the engine into the frame to see if the Spirit mount lines up before you start to get creative.

I put the engine in last night. If I put the engine side bracket up against the 2 mounting holes of the block it's an 1-1/4" from the trans mount hole and a mile from the center hole of the bushing in the frame-side mount...

Are you running the correct brackets and mounts? 86 is early small mounts all around and 92 is large mounts. You just need to use the correct ones, they all fix any block.

It's all the stuff from the 92. Only the block itself is an 86.

You need 90+ mounts/brakets to fit that 86 engine in your 92 car.

Isn't that what I have?.. Stock the car was a 2.5 CB Auto trans. The only thing that's changed is the 86 2.2 block...

THE ONLY THING THAT HAS CHANGED IN THIS CAR IS THE 86 ENGINE BLOCK. ALL BRACKETS AND MOUNTS ARE FROM THE 92, STOCK TO THE VEHICLE...

Sorry I don't have pics at the moment...

I thought the 88 and older engine-side bracket was longer and held the mount bushing?..
My stock 92 is shorter and the frame-side bracket holds the mount bushing.

Yes. That is the only bracket I have and precisely the one I'm having an issue with.

On the right side of the engine there are both the 5252351 BRACKET, Engine Mounting Rt. and the 4483198 STRUT, Engine Mounting Rt.

Are both of them on there now?

Trans mount is fine, never removed or messed with, timing/passenger side mount/bracket mounted up great. Radiator-side front of the vehicle, engine-side bracket will not reach frame-side mount...

I guess my next stupid question would be if the front mount is left off for the moment does the engine properly bolt up to the transaxle and the side mounts at the same time?
