My 87 Pacifica has thrown a code 23, throttle body temp sensor. Can anyone tell me which one it is on the throttle body? I went to Autozone to get a new one, they couldnt find what I was looking for. THe guy came up with an air temp sensor, but it looked like it was too big to even go into a throttle body. THere are 2 sensors that I can see on it, one has a small plug with 2 wires, the other is larger with 3 wires. Can anyone help? Also, could I just pull it out and clean it up or do I need to get a new one?

sensor..

I believe its at the driverside front as you view the engine from the front of the car. I think it has somethiung to do with hot restarts. Mine always had some white grease on it. Not sure what it was. The 3 wire sensor you mentioned sounds like the AIS motor that controls idle air/fuel mixture.

I'm not sure whatm year the TB temp sensor was discontinued. Look for a vehicle in your year give or take a year or two. Should come off with a 15mm open end wrench without taking the TB off. I always take a collection of metric openends to the yards(8MM-15MM) for the little things, Good Luck.

Ais

If you are getting an AIS at the yard then have a T-25 torque bit on hand and you'll have to take the TB off the intake. Was it your AIS that was held on with a hose clamp???? Now thats really ghetto!

Ya know, I'm not sure if it's the AIS or not. I know there are 2 plug ins on the throttle body, one has a small, 2 wire plug connector, the other has a larger, 3 wire plug connector and almost looks like the same plug in for the 02 wiring. The smaller one has the hose clamp on it. The is a "buzzing" sound coming from the smaller one just befor start up, and on and off through idle, and it does idle rough, almost tothe point of stalling, but donsn't. I guess next weekend I'll have to make a junk yard trip with $20 bucks in my pocket, my cargo pants on, and my "what-ya-call-it" kit. To get those small whatyacallit's.

Doohickies...

Are you descibing the fuel injector that buzzes? It is on top of the throttlebody. The AIS is on the front and the temp sensor is to the right of it. This is while standing in front of the car looking into the engine compartment with the airbox removed.

It's an 87 Pacifica, they all came with the 2.2l turbo1. It is a "suck through" so the throttle body is beforethe turbo. When you turn the key to on, but not start it there is a quick "buzz" noise. I am almost sure it is one of the sensors, but seems to be coming from the one that has the hose clamp around it. This weekend I'm hitting the boneyards until I find the parts.

Thank you whistlin. That realy clears it up for me. The AIS is the one that is making the "buzzing" noise, and it looks like the plastic under the hose clamp is cracked, unless thats the way it came. I will go out today and try to find that temp sensor. Would that also be called the intake air sensor, or maybe air charge temp sensor?
