okay just answered my own question..they ARE special..look them up on wikipedia.

they were invented about 16 years after the normal O2 sensors

so....

where can I get one cheap? and what does the output look like?

any diesel trucks or cars in the junkyard have one?

 

I think any new car will have wideband. like a vw or audi 02 and up. You still need a controller. The vw part new should be ~$65.

 

Innovate uses the VW sensors and they work very nicely!!!

Their LC-1 can be purchased new off ebay with a gauge for as cheap as $250!!!!!


These wideband sensors work very well, and I have run a Tremendous amount of LEADED RACE GAS through mine with no ill effects or sensor degradation....

If you are really rich with leaded race gas, it will slowly kill the sensor.... but it will take a long time....



BTW, I have several brand new sensors for the innovate setup if anyone reading this needs one or two....

Cheapest wideband sensor will be found on VW cars at the junkyard. Can get NEW ones as cheap as $40-49

 

I picked up one of the ometer/lc1 combos from Moates. Mine works great, and the O-meter has some really cool features (although the guage doesn't like the cold). I coudln't find a cheaper way to get a full wideband setup. There is also a thread about a group buy somewhere on these forums for an AEM setup. Unless you're an electronics guru you're not going to be able to use just the sensor, you're going to need a controller.
